WHAT I’M WORKING ON

Right now all the illustrations for Caverns and Dryads are finished, and the only thing left is connecting everything together so I can finally publish. It’s a very exciting moment, even though there’s still programming, testing, translating, and a few other tasks ahead. But with a bit of luck, I hope to wrap it all up during February.

If you’ve never visited the blog before, it contains posts about the game… and some stranger things. It’s probably not for everyone, but you might like it. There are no rules there. Alongside reflections and worldbuilding, you’ll find visual creations and poems.

In the coming days I’ll be sharing how I’m creating this game, so you can get a sense of the process, what inspires me, and why. It might be inspiring for you as well.

THE DLCs AND THE BUNDLE ARE DISCOUNTED AS A THANK YOU

Valentine’s Day is coming up, so I decided to show my love for you, the players, in two ways:

The DLCs are discounted. If you don’t have the Maps DLC yet—which is very useful—it’s 15% off, which is great considering its already low price. And the Bestiary DLC is also discounted, at 25%, making it very cheap.

The Bundle with both DLCs is now 30% off, and with the stacked discounts it’s extremely affordable. You can get everything for under 5 euros, or around 5 dollars, I think. You’ll get both the Bestiary and the Maps.

This discount lasts until the 14th of this month. Everything I earn from it will go directly into promoting and developing the game.

Today’s update brings many new features! Read this post to learn everything.

WEAPONS

More realism for weapons: they can now be damaged through use and by the acidic attacks of monsters (or their acidic blood).

You will see the weapon’s durability next to the armor’s durability.

You can buy weapons in cities (not all cities have the same stock). Some cities offer stronger weapons, others less so. I plan to add even more weapons in future updates!

THE INTRO

I’ve made some adjustments that give you more hints about the protagonists. You can replay the intro from the menu (INTRO button).

For new players, the intro is now mandatory. Some new players didn’t understand the heroes’ purpose because they skipped it.

Since the story is a fundamental part of Caverns and Dryads, this change is necessary. This way, players see the narrative mechanics and the main plot of our adventures from the very beginning.

UPDATE TO FOUND ARMOR/WEAPON SCREENS AND ARMORY

When you find a weapon or armor in a dungeon, you will now see the differences with your current equipment more visually. This helps you compare and decide whether to switch or not. Along with the images, I added +, -, or = signs next to the stats to make comparison easier.

In the armory in cities, you can also compare weapons and armor more clearly, and buy different types of equipment. Cities have different stock, so check them whenever you visit.

MAPS DLC NOW HAS AN EXTRA USE!

Players who bought the Maps DLC can now open the map from the DLC screen and view it while in cities or dungeons, to plan routes and study the world.

If you bought the DLC, simply update the game and you’ll enjoy this new feature.

This is useful to understand the world better, or to evaluate whether to abandon or continue an accepted job. Also helpful to calmly decide where to go next.

REPLAY SIGNIFICANT CHAPTERS

By tapping the Heart icon, you open the screen where you can see details about the heroes’ relationship. Recently, I added a Friends button and a Milestones button. Tapping either showed a visual list with thumbnails and some information.

Now, when you tap on each friend or milestone, you will see a “Remember” button. Pressing it will replay an important chapter you already experienced.

For example, if you completed the quest to save the river, you will see the epilogue again.

This improvement allows players to remember the important moments and relive them.

WHAT’S NEXT?

I will continue working on the illustrations. I’ve been on them for weeks. You know my workflow is hybrid so it takes time. When I finish, I’ll release an update. I’ll call it 2.0, and it will be a major update, since it will include the full playable story of the Emerald City.

Will the heroes save Tamzyn’s mother?

Will they separate, or challenge the world to stay together?

What awaits them afterward?

Wait a little longer, and you’ll be able to experience it!

CITIES

<b class="_3cln317VYhwhE1fSeMCG48" <the="" long‑awaited="" cities="" revamp="" update="" is="" finally="" here!<="" b=""> Exploring them is now >b class="_3cln317VYhwhE1fSeMCG48">more controllable, immersive, and fun.</b>

This update comes by request from several players. Now, instead of everything being random inside cities, you can choose which district you want to visit and what type of place you want to go to. You pick the neighborhood, and then the shop, building, or service.

What I like the most is that the city now feels different, and it truly feels like you’re inside a real city.

Here’s what this means:

  • You can fully recover as long as you can pay for it.
  • You can buy and sell items without stress.
  • You can repair your weapons, and you’ll always find the blacksmith.
  • I’ve added a library to every city, and a government building (it will have functions in the future).
  • Cities can now contain special places. For now, in Subterranea you’ll find the Amethyst Throne of the Purple King and the Silver Palace of the Council. I’ll add more in the future. These special locations will allow for even more narrative and variety.

LORE

Another thing: I’ve added new lore about the Wizards. All players now have access to 3 lore items: the Dryads, the Wizards, and Subterranea. You may enjoy reading them to learn more about my world. You can access the lore through the “DLC” button, which contains both this free lore and the Bestiary if you’ve purchased it.

The “intro” story accessible from the menu has also been updated, adding parts that make it more coherent and give some hints about future events ;)

Update your installation and let me know what you think. Also take a look at the DLCs — they include some extra features you might enjoy.

Version 1.4.32 — December 29, 2025

MOST IMPORTANT:

  • Cities revamp: cities can now be visited in a more natural way. You simply go to the places you want. Random events, good or bad, may still happen as you move from one location to another.
  • Special places added to cities: cities can now contain special locations, such as the Purple King’s Palace or the Council in Subterranea.
  • The city center district now has a government building (I may use it to pay guard fines) and a library (to check small lore fragments — different from the long ones in the Lore screen, as these are common knowledge and not extended).
  • A Builders’ shop has been added to cities. This will be the place to request the construction of your house when I add that feature in the future.
  • Cities now have shops divided into: food, magic, and bazaar; and there is also an armory in the crafts district.
  • Added lore about the Wizards.

OTHER:

  • Fixed minor bugs and typos.
  • If you have already learned a spell, you will now be warned when trying to buy its scroll in a shop.
  • The starting phrases of the game are now displayed correctly.

This update adds support for the improved Maps DLC (BEWARE, only for the Windows version on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3634870/Caverns_And_Dryads/ ). If you own it, you will get two new buttons on the world map:

  • Plot a route to a selected destination: draws a path on the map to where you want to go. This helps you a lot to check if you are going in the right direction and what dangers you have to come across.
  • Display exits: displays the exits that each place has, how they are connected and which ones require a key to enter.

If you get the Maps DLC you get these useful features integrated in the game, and it also helps me as a developer in these hard times. I will update this DLC if I find more cool features to add, and you can suggest some too.

Hi adventurers!

This update introduces the experience system! 

You get 1 upgrade point every 100 experience points. And you can expend those upgrade points raising your stats as you wish in the newly added upgrade screen. This way you can customize your progress as you play!

How do you earn experience? 🏆

  • By defeating enemies you get their level×3, so an easy monster gets 3 points, an intermediate gets 6, a hard one 9, and the boss 12. In the case of bosses, as they tend to be located at chapters, you may also get extra experience or stats raise on those.
  • When you explore a new place you’ve not been before, you get 25 exp points.
  • When you finish a job, you get 75 exp.
  • When you finish a main or secondary quest (parts of the story), in addition to the stats raise or prizes, you also will get 250 exp.

How do I know if I can upgrade? 

You can check your progress, experience and upgrade on the Characers screen.  Also, the character’s image on the map will show the word “UPGRADE”, also blinking.

The sanctuaries will only raise random stats up to the default+1 point or +2 in the Palace of Dryads (still closed).

Now, your way to get stats raise is to actually play, explore, complete quests, and fight monsters. This gives you control and balances the game. If used wisely, it also makes you Version 1.4.15, December 1, 2025

MOST IMPORTANT

  • Added Experience points, that get you upgrade points. Use these upgrade points to raise your stats as you wish in the newly added screen. Decide how your characters evolve and learn about what the different stats do. Get exp points through combat, exploration of new places, and completing quests and jobs.

OTHER:

  • Fixed game start texts.

  • Added Experience points, that get you upgrade points. Use these upgrade points to raise your stats as you wish in the newly added screen. Decide how your characters evolve and learn about what the different stats do. Get exp points through combat, exploration of new places, and completing quests and jobs.

I’ve added two things, and made an update to share them with you:

  • I’ve added Steam Cloud Save, so now if you play on a laptop, for example, you can continue your game on your desktop. If you don’t want your save to be shared, you can disable it as usual for all Steam games from the Game Properties.
  • The world map now shows visual hints at the destinations of your quests and jobs. The main and side quests are displayed with a red halo, and the jobs with an orange halo. This way you can move the view across the map and see where you need to go, even if you don’t remember, and it will help you know how far you are and trace your route.

📢 In case you missed the smaller updates from these past days, I also added a “message of the day”, which is a text with a link to communicate from inside the game a news item or blog post related to the game.

🏆 I also added achievements for defeating 100, 500, and 1000 enemies, and a leaderboard.


❓ And then what?
 I’m now working on reforming the cities to make them more fun and navigable, and on a system to upgrade character features through EXP points, which will be earned through chapters, defeated enemies, and exploring places.

The story is ready, and I still need to make the illustrations, which is quite laborious since, as you know, I use a mixed technique. It’s a story that will bring life to the main mission, and it is highly challenging, emotional, and epic.


I also already have inspiration for upcoming missions and things to add to the game.

Hello adventurers! 😊 This update fixes a few bugs and also adds some features that improve the game. It’s a small update before introducing the story of the Emerald City, so everything is solid and ready for the new chapter!

Also added:

  • In the shops, you can now buy two new spellsMagical Armor and Water Armor. These spells create an armor around Tamzyn with a set amount of points that block damage. Once those points run out, the armor disappears. They protect against different types of damage (Magical Armor blocks physical damage, and Water Armor blocks fire and energy). Get both spells by doing jobs and saving up money — you’re going to need them! 🛡️💧
  • Now, when there’s a bad environmental condition, you’ll be informed while camping, and see how long it will last.
  • On the Loot screen, you can now see how many coins are in the pile of gold. 💰
  • On Loot, you can use items you’re carrying instead of just dropping them to make space. So now you don’t waste anything. If your backpack is full, you no longer have to throw things away — you can use food or potions to free up space.

Here comes update 1.4.3, which I’ve decided to release ahead of schedule before diving deeper into the major 1.5 release.

🧭 This update introduces a new type of job mission: searches. They’re similar to the ones where you deliver maps and documents, but this time you’ll travel to a specific location and return to report on rare plantsfabulous animals, and strange places. For now there are a few, but I'll add more. These missions pay better than document deliveries. The destinations aren’t cities, but any point on the map that isn’t a city or sanctuary (in other words, dungeons).

👑 If you’re already friends with the Purple King, Urvhal will assign you higher-paying missions. These take you to liminal places. Those mysterious locations inspire me. Maybe in the future I’ll give them more features and interactions. I don’t know... maybe procedurally generated mapsunpredictable mystical zones… If you have ideas, I’m all ears!

🛠️ I’m still working on release 1.5. A lot of it is already implemented, and the full story is written. I just need to bring it all together and create the graphics, so it’ll take a bit more time. I’m excited to share it with you! Thank you so much for playing!

This week I’ve been writing a lot for the main storyline. I’ve shared it with a few people, and they loved it. So I hope it will entertain, move, and inspire you just as much.

  • You’ll have to defeat up to 3 bosses, and they’ll be tougher than the Aberration. Watch out!
  • Many features are in development—both in combat and beyond. Too many to list now. The goal is to expand both depth (features) and breadth (size and locations).

The Maps DLC isn’t required to play. It’s meant as a way to . But now I’ve added a new perk: maps that show exits between areas, and places that require keys or are blocked.

With these new maps, you’ll be able to plan your missions better, and choose your paths more comfortably to reach your goals.

📚 Bestiary

I’ve decided to design it in a style similar to the game, since you’re already familiar with it. It will be an illustrated PDF, with matching background and decorations. It will be a digital DLC.

It will contain a catalog of species, cultures, and peoples of the Rift. Each creature will be described with its traits, strengths, weaknesses, and lore and testimonies.

This DLC will be optional and supportive of the development. I haven’t set the price yet, but it will be moderate and fair.

So I’m gradually gathering the story, which I’ll expand and unify. I may publish the novel. Most likely, I’ll release it here  and on Steam, as a support DLC.

But this is a side project. The top priority is the game, then the bestiary. The novel is forming in parallel, since it’s the game’s stories in book format.

Release 1.4 is here! This update introduces new backstory and worldbuilding chapters that appear in dungeonscities, and when you rent a room at the inn. As requested by some players, these additions offer deeper insight into the characters of Tamzyn and Sioul, as well as the game world itself.

🧭 What are they and what are they for?

These are short narrative chapters without choices, where you simply witness conversations between the characters. They reveal important details for later in the game and help you understand the world and its inhabitants more deeply.

💞 Relationship Points

Some chapters in dungeons and cities will grant relationship points, while all chapters at the inn will give trust points. These stats will play a role in future story developments and may influence how certain events unfold.

🧠 The Key Concept

The most important part of this update is the new engine that allows me to add these chapters using images with facial expressions, paired with the writing. This gives the game more emotional depth, while keeping it fun and immersive. As you can see, the game can now grow in depth (like this update) or in size (by adding new places, monsters, or features).

I’ve been writing chapters for the main quest, which I plan to implement next. I might add some jobs first—or somewhere along the way. Still deciding. With these new chapters, I believe the main story will feel richer and more meaningful.
