A downloadable quiz for Windows, macOS, and Linux

"All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players…"

- Charles Dutton, first Son of Skaia

SKAIAN SURVEY is a resource for classpecting (the assignment of CLASS and ASPECT to a person) in the form of a relatively short test. Ponder a variety of notions about the self and the world, and at the end you will be presented the HEROIC TITLE your answers fit best.

You may consider these similar to the character archetypes found in ROLE-PLAYING GAMES, but further elaborated through the lens of JUNGIAN ANALYSIS, which even further echoes the greater WESTERN CANON.

  • Measure the personalities of you and your friends.
  • Re-interpret the lives and legacies of famous people.
  • Be rewarded with fancy pajamas.
  • Several years of research in the making!

WARNING: This program may not be compatible with certain monitor set-ups.

Skaian Survey is inspired by the webcomic Homestuck — you can consider this an unofficial fangame. Credit goes to Andrew Hussie, the Homestuck Art & Music Teams, and What Pumpkin for the overall concept, as well as select art assets and musical references throughout.

I have a question, can this be used to classpect characters from across various fictional media? Or does this only apply to real life people?

You're encouraged to apply the survey as you wish.

gorgeous quiz.

What a wonderful little quiz with amazing presentation! I dont see the gender question alot and its nice seeing something that aligns with the theory of classpectism being like the zodiac birth system. I already had my thoughts on what I think skaia would assign me, but I was surprised and interested in the new angles this quiz gave me

I'm going to be honest, this is genuinely amazing. Some of the best presentation I've seen for this sort of thing yet. Congrats! The presentation feels like something one might see out of a fully finished SBURB Game (Whether a Sim, or a Choose Your Own Adventure one, like those ChoiceScript games.), it absolutely rocks!

With the Quiz results, it was certainly unexpected given most quizzes pinned me as the MIND Aspect but a Rogue of Hope oddly fits, especially with the explanation i got in the Quiz (Also didn't expect to be called extremely subjective... ouch?)

Also, the link to your BlueSky on Itch doesn't work, since it links to a .com when the bsky account just uses the default bsky.social

Thank you for making this wonderful quiz.

— and thank you for catching that broken link!

besides the master class thing mentioned by oomf below me, what the fuck do you mean this was made not that long ago, this is VERY good! amazing job on this!

is the master class update not on linux support yet? me and my friends were trying to get em and couldnt at all..

aside from that. one of the best classpect quizzes in terms of presentation and actual output ive ever seen. thankshrew please keep making content that you put your entire heart into it shows

As long as your game is labelled as Version 2.11 on the title screen, you should have access to all Version 2.11 content. Some content is more well-hidden than others.

presentation is Awesome

a really nice little quiz! i would appreciate some insight into what the numbers/ratings mean but it was certainly well presented, and i thought the questions were interesting, even if “my real answer” to any one question was often not present

(+3)

A super colorful and inspiring quiz! I would like to say that I loved it completely but I must admit I found the results and some questions to be a bit frustrating :(. I love classpecting a lot and am quite confident my classpect is a Witch of Void, but none of my results were accurate. I've been playing around with the different questions and debug to try and figure out your system but so far I could only come to the conclusion that some questions hold enough sway to skew others to a common group of classes and aspects. While I certainly loved a lot of the questions and their answers there were a few that felt incomplete (such as "would you commit a lesser evil towards a greater good" lacking in any definiative negative answers and the vagueness of some other questions and their answers.)

As a personality quiz in relation to classpecting I do believe there could be improvement; however, as a quiz exploring a persons' classpect in relation to their narative role it is amazing! When it comes to SBURB I would say such questions (other than galactic fate and all that) would be closest to the true determination of one's god tier. If I was answering this as a 13 y/o rather than a fully realized adult I imagine I would also get more accurate results (while I'm quite certain a Rogue of Rage, Heart, and/or Mind are not MY classpect I imagine there are quite a few counselors who are). It could also simply be that our individual understandings of classpects are quite different, or that there are simply not enough questions for some of the rarer classes and aspects. I plan on playing with it a lot more because the nerd in my NEEDS to figure out what traits would result in my classpect! I'm also really excited to see what your future projects turn out to be. Your methods fascinate me and as a fellow classpector I hold great respect for your work. Great job.

I appreciate your honesty. I would like to confirm that the questions are evenly distributed so that none of the 12 classes or 12 aspects are prioritized over the other. A few people have already openly reported finding the Witch of Void!

The characters and themes of Homestuck were my primary source of study for this project, and you would be right for saying that people working from a different basis should expect different results. I'm grateful that many people have found merit in my specific interpretation.

Thank you for playing!

hi, logged in to this account just to say i really loved this and will be taking it again later, lol. taking a homestuck classpect quiz has never felt so invigorating of an experience lol

i wanted to ask where the music was from, if it's something you composed or if it's something official that i've overlooked.

also i am a rogue of space, which is fun!

Although I arranged all of the music from scratch, it is largely in tribute to compositions originally belonging to Homestuck. You can find the specific musicians referenced in the game's credits.

This quiz is quite crazy awesomesauce!!!

I especially loved the ceremony part (mostly because I am Carapacian fan and I just love Derse/Prospit related stuff, so it was nice to see them in this) and while looking at concept art, I really loved designs for "conductor" pawns and the band members (with pawn soldiers and hornographers)

I also found it funny that I share hero title with Roxy (I knew I was void aspect, I just wasn't sure on which lass lol)
(+1)

Well first of all, the presentation is absolutely beautiful!! The graphics, descriptions, music, SFX... everything. The ceremony made me hold my breath, it really makes you feel like you're about to reveal yourself to the carapacians (I kinda didn't want to disappoint them hahah) It definitely feels official and I can't believe I hadn't heard about this test before in the classpecting community!

My main complaint is that, maybe because of how it tracks the points for each question, the results feel a bit inestable? I mean, sometimes just changing one question was enough to go and completely change my class, aspect and lunar sway. Maybe I'm just a centrist or a boring Maid, but two friends had the same issue as me! (And I checked with the debug console). The thing is, I don't think the points system is badly executed. Heck, the questions are great too! And people use to mess up those in classpect tests. So maybe my suggestion is to make the test a little longer? I would gladly answer double or even triple the amount of questions if it meant my results will be more precise. Still, I'll gladly tell more people about the test and hope for newer updates! =)

Even in death, you could never disappoint them.

I appreciate that you see the potential in this test despite its tendency to cast sweeping judgements. The length is certainly intentional; figuring out how to condense all of my thoughts into sharp questions and clear descriptions was a challenge from the beginning.

Ultimately, I think 50 questions is enough padding as to not intimidate the majority of people. Consider the runner-up system as a way of cushioning your uncertainty.

Thank you for your enthusiasm!

Really great little quiz, both in content/accuracy and presentation! Kind of felt like I was actually booting up SBURB at the beginning lol. Also, my jaw dropped when it got my classpect perfectly how I imagined it! (lunar sway is different but honestly this has made me reconsider how I really align). I'd love to see more Homestuck stuff from you!

pretty cool stuff!! honestly its cool having a quiz get the heart thing right, was surprising to get witch when i see myself as a page :O

(+1)

Is it possible to get one of the Master Classes

(-1)

No. Lord and Muse were created only specifically for Caliborn and Calliope. It's fine to say you're one of them, but they're never put in quizzes.

This is so well put together! I do wish there was a way to go back to the question previous to the one on screen, though

(+1)

is there a way this can be put on browser? it won't work on my Chromebook and this looks really interesting and want to take it

(+1)

Other Chromebook users have pitched this solution to me. However, the game was not designed to work in-browser and some refactoring would be required.

I will consider it for the future!

this is so cool!!! i was classpected in this as a bard of time, and while i am a sylph of space and a very typical one at that i can so very much see how it got that!! it seems very accurate to me!!

Like I said in my review, deeply engaging and entertaining quiz. I was named Seer of Light with a derse sway, and I see myself as a Mage of Light with a derse sway, so... pretty accurate too.

Skaian Survey is awesome. Probably the most FUN classpect quiz out there right now. This thing clocked me better than the official extended zodiac quiz.

very cool and awesome! wasn't expecting my results (i'm usually a derse heir of rage), but ngl i kinda like it. i think i'd look good in a dress.

also a friend wants to know if you'll be adding the classes and aspects from the Sburb Glitch FAQ. i imagine not, but i thought i'd ask anyways

(+1)

The canon 12 classes and 12 aspects are all that's accounted for here, but for the record I'm quite fond of the Sburb Glitch FAQ. The Prospit/Derse cutscene was partly inspired by the SGFAQ section on carapacian cermonies.

Keep getting "Self-protection failed. Error code: 4" when trying to run it. Don't know if that's just me, though...........

(2 edits)

Most likely a program is preventing the game from starting. This is usually caused by something like EasyAntiCheat, but you should try disabling antivirus and running as administrator otherwise.

There may also be conflicts with the "Skaian Survey" data folder; I would recommend cleaning this out too. Otherwise, this is an error I've not encountered yet.

Sorry for your troubles!

this was really really fun actually! the presentation is stellar and i got the aspect i align with (breath moment)

as for the class, i typically assign myself mage buttt this quiz gave me seer, which i thought was neat (and not necessarily incorrect.)

This is really cool! By far the most nicely presented classpect quiz I've seen, and the only one to ever present me with the correct aspect!

The overall presentation is genuinely just super nice. There's just a good feeling to the SFX and music, and the results screen being presented through the questbed/slab and actively godtiering. Also appreciate the amount of questions and the fact that unlike some other quizzes they're typically more open-ended / less binary.

I'm curious as to how the classes are decided? Mostly regarding Sylph, as after several retakes it's one I've still not encountered despite actively going with answers I feel are fitting to it.

Have you considered uploading the soundtrack somewhere? Would be nice to hear the other aspect jingles that I haven't gotten so far.

Looking forward to the lunar sway update :)

(+1)

If you'd like to uncover how your results are decided, you can press the tilde key ("~") to open a debug display that tracks your progress. Keep in mind that the what you observe is liable to change in future updates.

(+2)

Great art direction, love the sound design. This makes a delightful standalone game but I can also see this as a beginning to something with a wider scope. It definitely feels official in that way.

I also appreciate the native Linux version especially!! Nice to see more devs doing that.

Few suggestions/ideas:
- Questions that ask on others opinions of the taker rely on the taker's report of others perceptions of them (lol, mouthful, but you get it). I'm curious if you're taking this into consideration and how it affects the heart ~ mind axis
- There are several questions where my true response is definitely "none of the above" or something that comes from a different philosophical angle, maybe, than the question (e.g. half full or half empty - it's just midway between fullness and emptiness states). These can feel kind of frustrating to answer, and I think there's interesting tension between developer and player that you could experiment with in future.
- I'm fairly certain I got a tie between Void and Doom, and the quiz seemed to choose randomly between them. Unfortunately, I don't have a dump of my quiz results to confirm this. Is this a feature you could add?
- Not a huge fan of the gender question. I get that people go back and forth on the canonocity of gendered classpects, but I think there should exist some flavored options along the lines of "This shouldn't affect the result"

I think this is really cool and is lowkey inspiring me to do more classpecting stuff, definitely going to follow this closely!!! Excited for updates :3

(1 edit)

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback. Most of these are common points that will be addressed one way or another in the 2.0 update.*

*EDIT: This happened!

I've seen some people share certain questions with others in order to gauge their opinions directly. I think it's equally as valid to gauge the perceptions of the test-taker themselves, though

Expect the definitive version very soon!

I got the Mage of Hope. Fun little quiz game.
