Showdown - Markdown Viewer

About

As markdown (md) files are getting really prominent in the days of coding agents, I decided to create my own small markdown viewer after looking at the available tools without finding the right one for me.

Showdown (Show(ing Mark)down) is a Tauri v2 desktop app (React 19 + TypeScript + Vite 6 frontend, Rust backend).

Currently available for Windows. If there is any demand, I will add other platforms like macOS (with what I can build without a developer account) and Linux.

A word from the AI:

Showdown is built on a modern stack of battle-tested open-source technologies. The desktop shell is powered by Tauri, keeping the app lightweight and native. Markdown rendering relies on react-markdown with remark-gfm for full GitHub Flavored Markdown support. Code blocks are highlighted with highlight.js, mathematical expressions are set with KaTeX, and diagrams come alive through Mermaid. The entire UI is built with React 19, and the application is distributed as a compact native binary—no bundled browser required.
