Real-time 1v1 Minesweeper Duel - Minefront.io
Hi everyone,
A while ago, some friends and I made a 1v1 Minesweeper game just to play among ourselves. We tried to keep the spirit of classic Minesweeper, while adding a few twists to make it more exciting. About 70% of it was built with AI, but honestly, we think it turned out pretty fun for a quick match.
The game has two phases:
Mining phase – 00:45
You have to plant 15 mines for your opponent: 14 regular mines and 1 smoke mine.
Raid phase – 02:15
You then have to clear the board your opponent prepared as fast as possible.
You also start completely blind, so if you click on a mine... BOOM.
Explosive arsenal:
Classic mine → -10 seconds, -15 points, +1 mistake, you lose your current streak, and your actions are blocked for 1 second
Smoke mine → -10 seconds, -8 points, +1 mistake, you lose your current streak, and you’re blinded for 5 seconds
Tactical tools:
Scanner → unlocked after a streak of 3 correct cells, limited to one per match, lets you safely solve one tile. If you don’t use it, you get 5 extra points
Flag → lets you mark tiles where you think a mine might be, so you don’t open them by accident
Matches are short, around 3 minutes long, so they’re perfect for a quick game while having a coffee at work, waiting for the train, or even while sitting on the toilet.
Unlike classic Minesweeper clones, the first click here is not protected or forced to be safe. That’s part of the fun: the mind game of trying to guess where your opponent will click first so they walk straight into a mine. And when they do, you get a notification — which usually puts a nice little grin on your face, especially if the match has only just started.
You can queue for public matches, and if someone else is searching, you’ll get paired automatically and the game will start.
You can also create a private room and share the link with a friend.
At the end of the match, both boards are revealed, the winner is shown, and you can react with an emoji or ask for a rematch.
The game has no monetization, no ads, no shady stuff. Until two days ago it was only running on the server IP, but we finally got a domain, so we thought we’d share it here and see if we can build a small community to get some games going.
It works fine on both PC and mobile.
Since there aren’t many players yet, there’s also an automatic system: if you’ve been searching for a match for more than 10 seconds and nobody is found, the game pairs you with a pretty decent bot that will either wipe the floor with you or at least give it a good try.
We’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks a lot!
