Monster Sweethearts Recut is a remake of the original Monster Sweethearts Game. It is a free lesbian dating sim set in the rural town of Blackwood Falls. After discovering the existence of monsters, you unexpectedly find yourself organizing the Monster Sweetheart dance, the one night monsters can be themselves. yet, you, yourself, don’t have a date to the dance! Through 5 different possible routes, you might end up with a monster depending on your choices throughout the game. However, there might be more than just planning the dance with whoever you choose…

I’m releasing the beta now to help guide development, even though the game isn’t finished yet. The story is planned to stay the same and will only get minor grammar spelling fixes, and scenes added if deemed necessary for clarity.
New CGs, backgrounds, updates to existing sprites if needed and sprites for side characters will be added later through updates
The art book will be updated as the game does, currently this art book has both the old 2020 book included and new stuff, including new companion stories and speedpaints.

Hello everyone! i feel kind of dumb for leving this comment but uhhhh... how can I win Bae's minigame!? I can't figure it out! :(
You just click the buttons before the timers run out like 6 times without missing any. The minigame doesn't have an effect on which ending you get though, theres just achievements related to it.
I was so excited to play this somewhat upgraded one because I was like "oh maybe they FINALLY fixed Victoria's route glitch" BUT NO. IT'S STILL THERE NO MATTER WHAT I DO. I redownload it so many times, wrote down the instructions to make sure I AM doing them right, which I KNOW I am. BUT IT DOESN'T WORK NO MATTER WHAT not in this new and upgraded ver and not in the og. Can the devs please kindly fix the issue? Victoria is the only one I wanted to romance yet I can't because the game DOESN'T let me, please let me date the gorgeous, sweet, clingy zombie💔
are you stuck on the first directions minigame?(the one where Sierra knocks herself out cold by tripping over a trash can).in that one Jaylene takes the first left on her own. So when you do it manually, you dont take that left turn yourself.
But either way both mini games have the ability to skip them after you die three times.
What exactly isn't working for you on Vic's route?
I am gonna start by saying, I love this game, I go back to it every so often because it's great. it has inspired quite a few things from me (Nothing public). I adore how you tow the line of horror and romance, how you make the characters feel like threats, without ever making the good ending feel like waiting for the boot to drop, how you clearly paint the horror as a manifestation of their unresolved feelings... for the fem characters.
I am gonna get into spoilers now.
Lyell never felt like a threat, and I know that was the point, but, how you leaned away from her bad end, it felt like you weren't confident in it, and while I understand that her bad end does make sense for her, I kind of wish you made her hurt Jaylene like (Almost) everyone else, because the ending she got, feels like it wasn't given the same treatment of the other endings, you don't describe anything, like you are afead of the darker sides of your story, but I know you aren't. xanthe's bad end is her giving Jaylene a lobotomy while begging for her to understand that she isn't acting by her own ability. Victoria Blows Jaylene's face off with a shot gun and keeps her dead body in the basement. Bae eats herself after eating Jaylene's rotting flesh, which is a more fantastical version of the ending lyell got, I assume, because what we got of lyell was Jaylene walking into the house, getting horrorifed, and Lyell being dead. I just feels like you pulled away, and, I understand why, it's hard to write a less fantastical self offing without worrying about causing people to do it themselves, but, did she even need to die? living your life stuck because you are the provider and you have no support is psychological horror, the horror could've been how she never felt happy, even after being an a relationship with Jaylene, and her other options weren't things she felt like she could do, because she is the provider. If you wanted the bad end to have gore, instead of offing herself, she could've started self harming in a way that could possibly just be her protecting Jaylene, or, maybe she fails to protect Jaylene because she is too tried from being strong all the time.
Minor gape, I think Blake would've been better as a trans women, She is great, don't get me wrong, but, her internal struggle about being the experiment could've had that extra juicy layer of "Does Jaylene even see me as women?".
Jaylene, I love what you did with her story, I love how you drip feed it through the different routes, but, in Blake's route, and kinda in lien's route, I get the feeling that she can't die as long as her heart is intact, so, why does she die in bae's and maybe Victoria's bad endings? in Lien's, they blow up, so heart is probably gone, in xanthe's she doesn't explicitly die, but, she is rotting in bae's, and in Victoria's it's implied she is dead. Lien's route reframes the Bae's and victoria's bad ends in a way that kinda pulls me out of them.
and finally, it feels like Victoria and xanthe got more dev time, they feel like complete finale versions, everyone else kinda feels more like late stage drafts, good, but, missing something. I feel like the game would've benefited from A, trimming every route but victoria's and Xanthe's. or B, spending more time fleshing out everyone else. I can't put into words on why vic's and xan's routes feel so different, but they do, character wise I prefer Lyell, Blake, and Lien, but story wise I prefer victoria and xanthe.
but, again, great game, and i can't wait to play your next.
I just have to butt in and say I agree so bad with the trans Blake idea. That's been a secret HC I've had since I first played and always liked the idea and to see someone else think about it to is so therapeutic (I've also always subscribed to the fact Victoria is just an unintentional trans allegory lmfao)
And just saying... If you ever write like a fan fiction or something about that concept, I'd be sat, because that internal conflict idea is fucking beautiful and I know I'd cry seven times seeing a character I relate to so much recontextualized to be even more relatable 👀

You need to have already completed both Lien's good and bad endings. Then these choices work to start the route:
1) It's not my scene
2) Have a staring contest.
3) Reason
4) Ask if she's ok.
5) Thank you so much again.
6) No preference.
7) Ask about her day.

My jaw fucking DROPPED when i saw this. I remember playing the original for like, a week straight during the pandemic. SO GLAD to have you back !
Has anyone else had this really weird bug where the game just pretends it's your first time playing? For some reason all the little menu mementos are gone, all my achievements too, I can't skip dialogue or start any of the later three routes, but all my saves are still here for some reason 😭 Just wondering if this is a thing anyone else has encountered so I can wallow in mild annoyance with someone else

That's really weird. I can't think of any reason for that to reset without you actively trying to. That information is all saved to a "persistent" file in the saves folder which also has backups that should be used automatically if the main one is missing or if the game is reinstalled.
Yeah it's weird because I even tried reinstalling it afterwards, nothing changed
Apparently reloading a previous safe and go into full screen mode was all that was needed to brick my game 😭 I just hope it's just something weird on my end and doesn't happen to anyone else
Reinstalling won't do anything cause of how saves work with renpy games. Was there anything else you did besides reloading a save and full screen? I can't seem to replicate it at all. And if you didn't know, in preferences there's a setting to skip unseen text if you want to be able to skip through things again.
Honestly yeah, as far as I remember just that. I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if (and kind of hoping) it's just a thing on my end, my laptops genuinely falling apart as I speak, so it could've just been a corruption error??

Do you mean the achievements? If you're still stuck I think it's skipping the quick time event minigame, it'll give you the option now that you've finished it before

If you haven't gotten it yet, that achievement is for skipping the minigame. You first need to fail the minigame twice in a row to unlock the skip option. The fails are saved through reloads, so you can just save at the Reason/Instinct choice and reload to it immediately after each fail.

Seeing this Recut made me so happy I could actually cry rn... Monster Sweethearts is one of my absolute fav games I kept playing it a lot and ill definitely do the same with this Recut <3 thank u for this amazing game cant wait for the full release !!!
When's the full game gonna come out?
After trying for a long time, I deleted the save from that specific part and played that section of the route again. Then I put in the correct answers, and it worked.
I think it was some kind of game bug because I had tried too many times.

How can I get a happy ending with Bae?
Just pick Instinct for all 3 choices during her route.
On Xanthe's route, in Rose's puzzle. Someone left the answers in the comments and they don't work in the game. I tried writing them in uppercase, lowercase, and it doesn't work.

I love this game so much, I basically binged all the first 4 romances in just two days, and now I'm on Liens. But Xanthe is my favorite, I'm a huge sucker for lesbian vampires.
And I headcanon that Jaylene in the future decides to turn as well and they can be immortal lovers fr, though I think Xanthe and her are gonna need a lot of therapy to that point with all the trauma.

Liking this so far, but I wonder, when do I get to choose a romance? I'm a few hours in and the only one I've gotten to spend any time with is Victoria. Like, I don't think there's been opportunities to hang with anyone else. Do I just need to play more?

you need to play more and also be more open with the other characters. for example, when you first meet Lyell. try to engage in a kind act and talk about her with Blake. if you try to flirt and lead on the other characters besides Victoria. you should start a new route thats not centered around her.

Your route is determined by the first 6 choices. Each character prefers certain answers and whoever you choose the most answers for is whose route you start. If you manage to balance the answers you get to choose your route yourself. Additionally, Xanthe requires having completed the good and bad ends of the inital 3 unlocked routes, Lien requires completing Xanthe's, and the secret route requires completing Lien's.
I can give you the answers for each route if you need help with starting any of them.

i can't figure out the answer to roses riddle ive tried everything i could think of that might make sense but ive come to a dead end. i really want to 100% this game and i can't do it unless i get past her riddle. someone smarter than me please tell me the answer. :(
Answers to all three of Rose's riddles:
1) "Choice" or "A Choice"
2) "Power"
3) "Bat", "Bats" or "A Bat"
Capitalisation is not required, but any letter other than the first in each word being capital will most likely cause the answer to fail, however I've not tested that myself.

Finally completed this game and I need to gush about the changes, overall love the Recut and it's "fixed" essentially any of the (admittedly minor) issues I had with the original game
(light spoilers)
I had some problems with Lyell, Xanthe's and Lien's routes in the original game, a lot of them weren't serious or problems with the game itself more just personal preference stuff, but the recut has literally solved them all
With Lyell I had a lot of problems with the way it was structed, it felt like it had a lot of unnecessary filler that didn't service the plot or main relationship. I'm so glad that's changed, the route feels so much more condensed now and was a lot easier and more fun to go through than the original one
With Xanthe it was 100% a personal thing, I just didn't like her characterization. She felt outwardly antagonistic to everyone, constantly poking at the other characters insecurities and not taking no for an answer and I'm glad that stuff was toned down, in fact I really liked her role in Bae's route. It makes it a lot easier for me to emphasize with her during her route (which I liked a lot more than I thought, like oh god I'm a Xanthe fan now)
With Lien in the original game, I thought both her character and route were fine, but the main (again very personal and not objective at all) Issue I had was early on was with the whole "morality of stealing" argument. I always felt Jaylene treated Lien weirdly to me, and came off a little out of touch from her. With the minor changes I really like the way it's done now, as Jaylene actually makes her points when in the original I felt like it was pretty vague
And Jaylene's characters feels a lot more refined now, like she has a proper set personality. She definitely did in the Og game but I felt past the prologue and some scenes here and there I never personally felt like she had a personality I could pin down and most of the enjoyment i got out of her character was her dynamic with the other characters more than anything else. I really like her new characterization she's such a fun character and protagonist now
Anyway uh I'm not gonna being able to shut the fuck up about this game. I can't wait to be completely normal and replay it every month
can I play Xanthe's route without getting all Victoria's achievements
All you need are Lyell, Victoria's and Baes good and bad endings, you don't need to 100% it :)
Currently you don't actually need Vic's bad end to unlock Xanthe, only the good one.
Will there ever be some sort of Achievement guide? Just completed the game and have all of them but one of Vic's and one of the secret route's and the completionist in me has made me bash my head against the wall trying to work out what I possibly could've missed
(also the melons scene scared the everliving shit out of me)

In Vic's it's pretty much just the good and bad endings and then just replaying or failing both minigames a few times.
i swear I've done Victoria's path 20 times now. I got all of the achievements, done both endings and even did the left right game thing and still don't have the last one unlocked.

SPOILERS FOR VICTORIA'S ROUTE
Every mingame should have a fail and a skip achievement. Both of the left right games have each of those. Vic's route also has an achievement for each ending. Skip options are unlocked after 2 fails (per minigame) or having completed either ending.
SPOILERS FOR ENTIRE GAME
Lyell has an achievent for each ending. 2 Total.
Bae has an achievement for each ending, one for failing the minigame, and one for skipping it (option is available after 2 fails in a row without winning. Fails persist through all playthroughs until you win or skip) 4 Total.
Victoria has 2 for endings and 2 per minigame. 6 Total (already listed above)
Xanthe has an achievement for each ending, two for choosing reason or instinct for the bad end, one for choosing the twins over rose, and one for trying to pick either "Let Her Stay." or "Let Her Go." 6 Total
Lien has an achievement for each ending and one for the amnesia ending (having 0 or less points for her and choosing to keep instinct). 3 Total.
Blake has one achievement for the ending, one for dying in the bedroom by picking "Closets." as the 2nd choice, one for instead choosing "Chests." as the 2nd choice in the bedroom, one for dying in the minigame, and one for skipping the minigame (option unlocked by failing twice or by having already finished the route.) 5 Total.
Thank you so much for the Blake one, absolute godsend. Confused with Vic's though, as she has 6 achievements for me instead of the four you have, and I'm unable to get that final one

Major spoiler warning but I'm actually so confused
I completely forgot about Lien's secret ending. I wasn't even trying to get it, I was just replaying to try and get the good ending scene because I like to collect the endings in my saves. But then all of a sudden, new text just appeared and I got a new ending?? I don't even have a clue what triggered it. Is it random? Do you get it if you play her route enough times??? Is it from certain choices? I swear I didn't do anything differently. I haven't even picked the neutral dialogue options yet, what the hell.
Also, what the hell is that ending anyway? It's actually so interesting because the open ended nature just leaves so much potential for how everything could play out. Anyways, rant over I was just really shocked. It's seriously been too long since I last played this game

For me I was able to get it on my second play through by choosing all the bottom answers. I wasn't even aware this was a thing in the OG game and went back to check, did the same thing to get it there too
But seriously I agree it's so cool! Like ughhhh it's my favourite romance trope ever and I hope the dev does some sort of short sequel fic or something because it has so much potential for a unique story
I'd honestly forgotten that it was Monster Sweethearts where I first heard the idea of running when upset. I didn't end up listening to that advice for a few more years, but when I moved and suddenly had access to a treadmill throughout my day, it's now become one of the most productive ways that I manage my anxiety.
I still think of the original scene every time I decide to go for a run, but somehow I forgot that it's from this game. Crazy how stuff like that sticks with you for so long

Her route is locked behind everyone else's. You'll have to play through each route and get both the good and bad endings for all of them before Lien even becomes available. You'll know that you've gotten the good and bad endings for the other characters when you've gotten five collectables on your home page.
By the way, Xanthe's route is also locked behind Lyell, Bae, and Victoria's routes so don't try to romance her before them. Then you need to select the right options in the early game. Looking through the original Monster Sweethearts' comment section will give you the exact choices to make to get Lien's route, but I'd really suggest trying it yourself at least a few times before giving up and looking for the answer. You can figure it out for yourself if you pay attention to the consequences and results of choices while romancing the other characters.

OOOOMG, can't wait to replay the game!
I accidentally just stayed up all night because when I heard "the routes have been rewritten for better story flow and structure," I was expecting like, minor tweaks. Every time I thought about going to sleep I kept thinking to myself "well, I'm almost done anyway, there's no way that there's more than an hour left, this is a beta for a minor update."
There is so much new content. This is actually insane. I just played for five hours and still haven't reached the end of Victoria's route. This is so, so peak. Insane. I'm gonna take a nap.
Love the remake! Especially how you remade Lien, love her new design! I've been trying to get Xanthe's good ending, no matter what I do I always get bad one, even if I don't click on anything in the last choice thought... Which means I can't do Lien's story :(
In the original, "not deciding" was how you got the good ending. In the Re-cut, I was struggling to get Bae's good ending despite passing the minigame. Turns out I just needed to make different decisions throughout her route.
So, putting those two ideas together, maybe you need to make different combinations of choices throughout her route and then still "not choose" for that decision?
I hope this wasn't too vague, I'm trying not to explicitly spoil anything too badly

All that matters is you don't click on anything on her last instinct vs reason choice, where she's standing in the rain; whatever choices you pick before don't matter. I just retested it, and it should work. Try again and don't click anything during that scene, and if it still happens, If you're able to, can you record that part of the game and upload it for me to see. Cause I don't know how it can go to the bad end if you wait out the timer.

Was there an explanation added for Victoria's shift? I remember thinking that her monster form was odd and only seemed to be following the same formula as everyone else despite it not making much sense. Maybe I'm just misremembering, but if I'm not, then that's awesome!
Holy cow, I'm still so attached to the old sprites (and tbh Jaylene is gonna take some getting used to) but Lien's new design genuinely surprised me in how different her vibe is without changing too much of her design and still communicating everything the original does.
Most of all, the second Bae's sprite appeared in the game I thought to myself "hey, I feel like she looks better than before" and after taking a look at her old sprite all I can say is... holy glow up. I remembered that I'd sort of felt like Bae had a sort of janky design but I could never quite put my finger on what was exactly wrong with it. From what I could tell, the new design improves so much while helping her have more of a memorable and distinct look.
And now that I'm talking about distinct looks, not everyone has a side part anymore! Huzzah for diversity of hairstyles!
I'm so excited to get an excuse to have my near-annual replaying of Monster Sweethearts, but I'm more excited that you're revisiting this project! I really cannot contain my excitement with all the new content you've talked about.
Edit: I cannot stop laughing every time Blake is on screen. The fucking fingers in her pockets is so on-the-nose that it cracks me up whenever I have to read text over her sprite

This game is actually amazing. I've been trying to get Bae's good ending, but keep getting stuck at the quick-time event; even when I have the option to skip it, it automatically fails it for me. Other than that, Bae, Lyell, and Victoria's routes are great. :>

I'm obsessed, I found the original from a youtuber who played it and I loved it. I just finished all of Bae, Lyell, and Victoria's routes and got all the endings, but no matter what I choose I can't seem to start on Xanthe's. This game is amazing, and the new scenes bring in so much to the story, especially Victorias route! I'm glad the game is out to play even if it is only beta!!
start a new game, and during the common route answer the questions in this order (1,1,1,3,3,3) it should start if you have all the endings of the other characters. You can check your endings by opening up the options menu and going to endings tab.
