Super Fun Game. The grapple mechanic had me hooked. I wasn't able to beat First Kiln Mode cause I was having too much fun. Oh and there was a giant centipede. They were chill. Really fun Idea! 10/10

Amazing game it felt like a reverse white knuckle! The surprise centipede had me panicking and stressing amazing love it alot cant wait too see more of your work

I uhh.... I think i went past few idols but ummm... i took a lot of risks here and there, died about 10-15 times and got to the end in the crisp time of 47 minutes.

Overall very good game with clear mechanics and a gameplay loop and well made physics.

loved the game mechanics i trully felt like spider man  the enviroment was a bit too dull but dint really care too much about that the centipede was barely attacking me rarrely ever saw em  but still had fun it was hard but it had its scary times it was aight  watch ma vid and see for yourself  7|10

What a lovely game. The movement is incredibly satisfying, and I love how you get pushed to get better and play riskier on every attempt. Still making my way through First Kiln.

I'm sure you're being overwhelmed with suggestions and requests, but I was wondering if you had considered these already:

-Being able to reel in the hook while it's still freefalling

-An extra hard hook mode where it doesn't become static on hit, but needs to actually latch on to a ledge

that would make for an awesome toggle or extra mechanic in a (realistic gamemode)

EXELENTE JUEGO, ME SACO UNOS MUY BUENOS SUSTOS!! 😂😂

Absolute amazing. What i dig more of the game is how fun it is to use the rope and descend, the map design is so flawless and its so fun to master the physics. The hook is also incredible well programmed, doesnt bug at any way and is super fun and intuitive to use. Easy to learn, hard to control. Once you control the hook you feel like a trapeze artist, its so satisfying to use.

Another point is that, besides the great map design, the whole aesthethic of it feels so incredible, the only comparision i can make is with games like Shadow Of The Colossus and Ico. The megalophobia and a little liminal spaces feel so good and so fitting, honestly i could just activate the no clip and wander around the map seeing every detail of every structure and every path i didnt see.

Great game, i got it here for free but im definitely gonna buy a steam version too, its that good.

This game is one of my all-time favorites. I adore the physics of the platforming, and the way the swinging and the falling and the jumping all work together is incredibly fun. Thank you so much for adding native controller support, too! I don't have the space to hook up a mouse (and I don't appreciate the exploitation of rodents) so the ability to play with my gamepad was awesome!

Thank you for making the closest thing to a Spider-Man game I have ever played, and thank you for making it so I could try it on my Mac! it runs very smoothly, despite my slight deficiency in RAM, and I am very privileged to have been able to play!

Fantastic gameplay mechanics, love the physics of the rope, I need more! The ambiance is perfect, the visuals really nail this gritty pixelated noisy concrete, and the sound design of the creature getting closer is so well done.

I also really liked the bittersweet scenario, not a lof narration but just enough to make it interesting but not lengthy, really cool. 10 / 10 little game.

Hey, I ran into an issue in the inverted map on custom settings where the centipede can just walk on thin air. Freaked the hell out of me (especially because I was playing on increased movement speed). The picture below should show one of these invisible platforms, but there are multiple around these parts (most of them seemingly diagonal connections between the tower and the wall). It only seems to happen on these increased movement speeds.

Could you add a 180-degree behind look feature? Like in Outlast.

You probably don't read these now, but I just wanted to say, like everyone else, I really like this game. Thank you for making it.

It's a perfect bite-sized piece of horror: not to spicy, not too mild, just enough to keep the adrenaline going.

add godmode in sandbox

Cord broke, so did my legs... again...

So.... I am TERRIBLE at this game hahahah. But I loved every second of it! It looks like it takes most people 20-30 minutes or so?

...let's just say... it took me longer than that. Like a lot longer. BUT I might actually give nightmare mode a go with this one because the gameplay mechanics themselves were SO FUN!

It follows, nobody sees it but YOU!

Doesn't work! purchased the game, downloaded the zip file and extracted... when I launched the application a window appears and closes, that's it, tried it couple of time re-downloaded the file and restarted my device, same problem. Can't even get a refund, (edit: it works now! thanks to the dev, if you encounter the same problem read leafy game reply below)

Did you launch the godot engine for it? or possibly tried an older version? If you did and got hit with the antivirus side, you just gotta click see more and run anyways. Its not a virus, and if its a concern in general, the game is the same price on steam

Hi Oea@Aeo!

Sorry to hear about the issue, thanks for letting us know! If possible could you send us an output log? Instructions: https://idolsofash.com/support.html

One thing you can perhaps try as a potential workaround to any Vulkan issues, you can launch the game with this startup argument: --rendering-driver opengl3_angle

Process of launching the game with a startup argument:

- Find the game's exe file
- Right-click and create a shortcut to it
- Right-click the shortcut, open Properties and find the Target field
- Add the above argument to the end of the path (ensure there's a space between)
- Use the new shortcut to launch the game

Btw: You should be able to contact itch.io support if you would like a refund

Oh yeah it works now! Thanks dev, and sorry for calling it a scam

It didn't taste good..

Ready to STEAL MY FACE!

Hello, ive recently beaten first kiln, and ive been having trouble unlocking the other modes and the grapple.
After beating it, it did not give me a message that another mode unlocked or that I got a new hook, neither did they show up anywhere. I was able to get the inverted nightmare mode by reinstalling the game, however this did not unlock the hook, and I am unable to unlock the first kiln inverted mode no matter what I do.
I tried reinstalling the game and beating first kiln and inverted nightmare multiple times, however nothing seems to fix this. I am also using the latest version of the game, which includes the sandbox(this issue started happening before the sandbox update released).
I absolutely love the game, and would love some support on this issue

Thank you for creating this! Had A LOT OF FUN playing it! A centipede did set me straight.

Anytime i try to download it, its saying it contains a virus? is there anyway to fix this on my end?

very common for games outside of famous plataforms like steam, just tell your antivirus its fine or shut it off while booting up the game

make an xbox port.

This game made me discover my fear for centipedes

Oh my god
We played this on stream the other day and I absolutely loved it
I'm not sure what I was really expecting but it blew away all of those expectations and the game was incredible.
This is an early version but the game was so good I'm going to go buy it now because it deserves it so much
I don't really have much to say negative about this game, it may be a little bit dark and finnicky at times but I don't even really care. It's too good
Keep up the excellent work
Here's my playthrough if you're interested in some really weird janky falls, jumps, and resets

very good game!!!
the only parts i didnt like were the first kiln (i hate the centipede that can just completely block the first part, and the starting area just felt way too hard) and nightmare inverted mode (i just couldnt find how to even scale down it)
worth the price.

I enjoyed every second of this game. I believe it has replay-able value. Love the lore and world building. such an interesting game. Keep doing what you're doing

Great Game worth the asking price

First, Really liked the game, the graphics and the story, it is really cool, and i also really loved the gameplay. So i've tried modding it to make an Infinite Version, Inspired by White Knuckle and its way of random generation (pre made rooms and things like that).

I Have really good progress right now, the generation is mostly done, and i just need to do an upgrade system and some more things for it to be done.

I am saying this because i wanted to check with the dev to see if i could publish the infinite mode, it would be the only thing in the game, with the story and the extra modes pulled out, as to not be just an free version of the game (there will be no monetary gain with the mod). And also to ask for any changes you want for an published version (what you want in the mod or removed)
I also wanted to see if you guys could help me with some of the stuff (mostly with how the game works under the hood, as im having some trouble figuring it out 😅) and to see if you guys would want to make some rooms for the mod!

If you want this, text me via discord: .creeperm
I will not be publishing it otherwise, and will be just finishing it for friends and myself.

this game is really really good BUT my entire save file just got wiped for no reason

update; deleting the game's file in the godot folder somehow actually fixed it for me? it runs now with my old save lol

Gameplay HERE!

I just finished Nightmare mode, and I liked it much more than the normal mode. The speed it demands makes it more entertaining and gives you more adrenaline! In fact, I managed to finish it even faster haha. Now it’s time to try the final mode! Once again, I have to say, great game!.

Hey!I’m Pablo Alegría, a music producer who loves working on horror games.

I’ve done music for a few itch.io projects before, mostly PSX-style horror and game jam stuff, and I really enjoy creating creepy, atmospheric soundtracks. I’m especially inspired by retro 80s sounds.

I checked out your project and I really like what you’re going for—it has a great vibe. I’d love to help out and make some original music for it if you’re interested.

Right now I’m not charging, I’m just looping to collaborate on cool projects for fun/credit .

Think I might've played this a tad wrong hah, but I had so much fun, thankyou for sharing it with us! :))

Nightmare mode is awesome. First Kiln in progress.

It would be really cool if it came out for consoles, like Playstation. :-)

Today! We found the corpse of "Idols Of Ash"

Flesh (Visuals):

Love the look, that pixelly, PSX look to it, the pit looked great, the "ghost memories" I enjoyed

Dismemberment (Difficulty):

Coming from someone who never played this kinds of games like white knuckle and such, feel like a medium difficulty on the normal setting, have not tried nightmare yet, its not too hard once you get the idea of the controls, I kept finger screwing up all over int he beginning, got easier the more I played and you learn the route, I used the mouse and keyboard but saw there was a controller option which, personally, would have been better for me but stuck to it

Infestation (Bugs):

Just the centipede! No other bugs I noticed

Corpse Integrity (Story):

Story was interesting, as you dive deeper, you get more clues... as long was you can make it to the kilns since they are your check points, once you make it to the bottom, you get the ending, but I liked it, each spot giving you another clue, I forgot to hit the tent at the beginning until I just jumped on to test something, but as you plunge, you get glimpses of memories and the reason why you are descending.

Something Off About It? (Ambience):

The ambience was not so much the chills and jumpscare build up, more about the panic of your next move, hoping to hook that rock as you free fall, trying not to becomes a splatter centipede slurpy, I found it panic/anxiety inducing and that feeling when you hit a bump or about to go down a hill on a coaster feeling in the human meat guts, ramping up when you hear the centipede gaining and clacking on the walls. I different kind of horror

How Long To Dismember (Playtime):

For me? Roughly 30 minutes with some deaths and knowing where to go, sadly my first run, my brainmeat broke and did not hit record, but feel 30 minutes is a fair amount, less if you know what you are doing

Value Of Meat (Price):

Was free I believe on Itchio when it first came out, snagged it before free is in the budget! And bought it also on steam lol

Currently on Itchio for $3.00 and Steam for $2.99 which for the experiance I had, feels like a good price, at this time, the dev is still dropping fixes and improvements, still active

Post Mortem Thoughts:

Idols Of Ash was rad af! Never played a game like this yet and it was a sweaty, stressful and awesome time, few times I am willing to go back and replay a harder difficulty in games, definitely these types, but this one has a draw for me to want to, everything play wise felt good, no issues, loved the look, the centipede was a pretty cool choice for a enemy and didn't realize it had hands and such until I was messing around and tried to pet it, easy a recommend and high rating. Great Job Leafy Games!

This was an insanely fun mechanic. I would buy a longer version of this for sure. Great game!
