Developer notes

Hey there! Yowan from Juicy Beast here. This is a demo we made in a few months to test out an idea we had about adding the Balatro formula to the classic Yacht dice game. We went out of our comfort zone by dressing the game  in a mid-century-inspired cartoon style, which was a ton of fun. We also made it as a (cursed) board game you'd find in the basement of an old house. Let's see if you can guess the lore from the few hints sprinkled here and there!

We'd love to hear your thoughts, good and bad, so please try it out and leave a comment :)

I loved it! So well polished. Just the dice are a little wonky sometimes especially when they have stickers.

This is really awesome thank you for this! The animations are awesome and the gameplay has me bookmarking this and playing whenever I have some down time. Really nice work!

Really good game !!

Useful tips I found for beating the game: Fragile Confidence + Leftovers is a killer combo! Last Resort and Two For Two are also extremely useful, Last Resort especially so if you use it well with Leftovers. Don't change the All category into Pair, Even, or Odd unless you have Hungry Pachem or something else to make up for the dice you can't include anymore.

Please consider making the continue function from the main main resume ones run from the shop before the battle one quit from, some interaction don't work in the expected manner and this would let players fix their loadouts when they encounter such an interaction. As an example I had a run end because I thought Red Disc effecting how a dice was scored would not be effected by Red Meat Tasty since it doesn't actually change the dice to red dice. Were I able to go back to the shop I would simply have sold Red Disc or confine it to one score sheet and resume the game.

Considering quitting and resuming can already be used to reset a battle and cheat rolls I don't think this would be harmful in anyway.

Damn a game that took after my game.

Here are some of my ideas for bosses:

Slippery: -1 reroll at the start of round and after each time you bank.

Tax Collector: Scoring hands now always behave like they're level 1 for this round only.

Scammed: Before banking, -$2. If you can't pay up, you lose! (:<
Twister: At the start of this round and after each time you bank, highlight a certian score category you haven't used yet. If you don't use the highlighted category, X0.5 multiplier.
"Oops": One time you bank (It could be the first, second, third, fourth, or fifth) will automatically score 0 points. You will not know until it's already triggered.
Snowplowing: White dice only give +1 chips when scored (If it's a 1 it won't score at all)
Headstart: x0.5 multi to all times you bank except for the first time you bank.
Nope: Relics will have a 10% to not trigger. (+-multi and +-chips counts as one trigger!)

Hey, JuicyBeast! Awesome game, great animations, and i can't wait for the full game to release! I just feel like a full house should be worth a tiny bit more than a small straight, because i personally think a full house is much harder to get. Ofc, that's just my suggestion, but it would be even more awesome then, in my opinion. Anyhoo, fantastic work!!!

consider manipulating the dice 🎲😃

Amazing game, simple but effective ( yhatzee + roguelite ) with great animation, good job !

Absolutely love this game to the point I bought it after three runs.  I've played other Balatro/Yahtzee roguelike combos before but this one feels more "right" than any of the others.  The cartoon style is PERFECT.  Especially liked the extra "enemy is scared out of their damn mind" animations when you got a flaming score.  Literally all this game needs is more bosses/relics, and some polish to the balancing that would come from having more relics.  Attached is a picture from my favorite run that went pretty decently into "Infinity" - called the "I don't give a $%#* what I roll" build.  I have a feeling if I could have proc'd more red face dice I could have been onto something with the mouse relic to jam X5 on the last scored category.

This game has made it into my batch of "comfort games" - where I just want to zone out after a long day of work or a bit of drama, and it's in good company with that list having Balatro, Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers, Dicey Dungeons, Luck be a Landlord, and Mr. Magpie's Harmless Card Game.  I have a feeling when this game is fully fleshed out I might be playing it OVER Balatro more often than not.

Thank you so much!

Dude, I agree. So cool LOL
Although, I'd prefer something like a 'manipulate the dice'-type build.

Yhatzee!!

juicy beast is back, like they never left

Great Game Bravo

I LOVEEE THIS AS A BALATRO GAMER

(+2)

Really fun game, great premise and execution. I got super addicted to this thing during exam season, I stayed up till 5 am playing at one point. I have a few criticisms and notes, though.

Red Meat Tasty is a hard wall past stage 3 because it punishes using red dice (which are essential for getting scores above 1000). I have found a workaround by using hungry hippo, which scores red dice that weren't selected for the combo. This is the only way that I have been able to get around Red Meat Tasty. Without a specific combo of gargoyle cashing an all 6s red die on the left multiple times, hungry hippo activating the red die on the right, and the use of the 3 of a kind score category specifically scoring the middle 3 white dice, I wouldn't have been able to get around Red Meat Tasty.

Another thing, the economy of the game is very broken--IMO. I find it very difficult to create/experiment with builds because everything is very expensive, and reaching stages past 4 requires getting very, very lucky with dice face packs and certain relics. X2 multiplier options are also very difficult to find/use, with the one relic that is built around granting an X2 but downgrading score categories being unusable because upgrading score categories is so difficult. I rarely have any money left over from shopping to use the golden ladder, and the grey ladder makes boss fights nigh impossible--I have to sell it before I go into any boss fight after stage 3. The relic that adds your money to your points is a joke, and the boat relic that gives you $ for leftover rolls is way, way too expensive to only give you like, 2 extra dollars a round. Some of these relics that are meant to give you money and stuff that activate once per round (like the uno card) don't work when placed in the global slots.

The game is great, maybe could use some relic tweaks (red lenses being a real detriment at higher levels), and definitely needs an economy rebalance.

"red meat tasty" is such a stupid condition especially if you've got the red disc (instant loss? can't be punishing us THAT hard...)

Completed the demo!

LOVE the art style of this game! It's super charming :)

The gameplay is pretty challenging, but fun as well!

I've already subscribed to the newsletter so i don't miss out on any updates for the game!

Can't wait to see what's in store for the game!

A bit of spoiler

Red meat tasty is super super hard if you don't have the right relics

I REACHED THE END OF THE DEMO!!!!! It was so unbelievably hard! Great job with this game I LOVEE the art style!! Am I going to become a gambler once I hit 21? Most definitely !

The game is fun but at times it's too much

(+2)

Love the game. The information back ground makes my screen look like its super dirty.

(1 edit)

  • I bought the game and love it
  • I noticed it's built in Unity
  • I'd love an Android version since Unity makes it straightforward
  • I'm willing to sideload an APK if you don't want to publish it formally, I think touch controls would be easy to impliment and then play
  • (+2)

hey just got the game, love it so far. addicting like balatro! I think aQOL change may be fixing a 4 of a kind to also count as 2 pair, as it does in most games..

    (+1)

mainly because the picture shows 2's on the two pair scoring bank, which would make me assume each 2 has a 2 behind it this allowing 4 of a kind to be a two pair

    (+2)

Love it! Gimme the full game!

    (+1)

    Ok!

    (+3)

This is gambling... in the best way possible.

YOU GOT A ONE WITH TWO DICE?!

    (+4)

    pretty interesing temu balatro!

    (+1)

    this game is soo cool

    (+1)

    Super fun!

    (+2)

This demo is so cool, has a ton of potential if you plan on fleshing it out into a full game. Love all the personality and style and the core gameplay is really fun!

    (1 edit) (+5)

Snow storm does not seem to work properly, it never increases the score value, despite never using my red die.
Also, some relics, including Ladder and Skip and Draw, seem to only work on the score card, not the top.

    (+1)

    inspiring work!

    …. Now I want deviled eggs….

Desperately needs smartphone support because I've been sitting on my commute everyday Yearning. Love the Devil's design as well, he's adorable.

    (+2)

    Hey, this is really good!

    (+1)

I hadn't understand the dice game before and all. This game teaches me well. Bravo.

    (+1)

Very fun game, and I loved the animations! My only complaint is that it's a bit short, but it is a demo, after all. Love to see where this goes in the future!

Also, here was my best run:

    (+1)

Absolutely wonderful game, love the art style! I haven't got past the last round of the second stage, but from what I've played, it's such a fun game. Was a little hard to understand at first, but after a few rounds, it was pretty easy to pick up!

    (+1)
that was lots of fun :) creating insane game-breaking combos in inscryption fashion is an infinite dopamine generator for me
