I have always wanted to try to make a deckbuilder that is not a roguelike, but instead an incremental. This was a project I started almost a year ago, but didn't have the time to make it properly work until recently. Let me know what you think!

This is becoming a full game on Steam! https://store.steampowered.com/app/4476320/Feed_The_Void

the druid seems powerful

This game rules, great work!

Once the full release is out, I'd love to try and port this to portmaster for hand helds!

pleasantly calm

fantastico, una obra maestra

hola

>:D

I couldn’t stop playing this once I got started. So addictive!

I love the artwork style and the mechanics. This is my kind of game. Thanks!

absolutely delightful demo. i tried a few different strategies (druidmaxxing, heavy mirror, afterglow) and enjoyed them all! i was surprised and delighted when i reluctantly tried heavy mirror after convincing myself that druidmaxxing was the best strategy, only to find that heavy mirror was just as good, if not better.  i was sad when mirroring a mirror did not grant me 2 copies of the reflect buff.

one thing about this game that makes me a little worried about its future is how some cards/relics are absolutely bonkers powerful [wanderer, candle, mirror, retain] while others seem not useful to a mysterious degree [leviathan, broodmother, beholder, glutton, centaur, salvage]. hopefully it's a similar case as with the heavy mirror build, and i just haven't wrapped my brain around their true power!

oh, also! the game is SO close to being playable on mobile (web). all the UI is positioned and scales nicely, but cards and level select get clipped off the edge of the screen and there's no way to scroll them horizontally

oh, also also!! i like how the first void is purple and all the artwork and cards and stuff is also purple. i was honestly surprised when all the non-void stuff remained purple on later levels instead of getting recolored to match the new color of void. really makes u think

I like this game, the artwork!

(1 edit) (+3)

This game is amazing not only because of its artwork but also because of how everything can interact with each other. For example, I like to combo mage (with mana drop) and mirror causing me to have a free card. (also adding this to my collection).

(+2)

A really nice idea and the implementation is good too. I am looking forward to the final version.

(+4)

I really like that there are no enemies, it's just you trying to make the best moves you can.  The art looks nice, the cards do what I expect, overall a fun little game.

The only real problem I've had, and I've played for about five hours and beaten the game with both decks, is that for whatever reason the turn counter just doesn't work. I'm not saying it's broken, but almost every time, I'd look at it, it'd say two turns left, I'd assume that meant two turns left, finish the turn, and suddenly it's the last round.

It's counting the current round in the "rounds left" and every time I'd immediately forget that and then get caught by it next time.

Really fun… only card I didn’t like was the smith. Enjoyed making combos and building strategies, but the RNG on the smith didn’t usually support my plans. Its a very fun deckbuilder tho.

(+1)

I haven’t finished playing the whole game, but I love it! This is so fun to play. I keep playing it in my free time because it’s addicting!

(+2)(-1)

anyone got games that play like this one to recommend?

The two closest I can recommend as far as card games with changing rules are Balatro and My Card is Better than Your Card. The second is one of my favorite games to unwind with right now. You place rules stickers on your cards to build the best deck you can. It's got bright colors and plays like making up games with your friends on the playground. I love it.

(+1)

Just finished! I cant wait for the full game!

Good game I've had a lot of fun with. One slight bug: I just played a Smith and it didn't proc the Spider's second rune.

So it upgraded the spider card but didn't trigger the meal rune? It needs to actually upgrade the spider card specifically. Possibly I need to fix the wording.

This is addictive. Everything can be combo-ed, it's incredibly satisfying.

Edit: Some descriptions are a bit misleading, though.

The Druid's Growth says "...increases by X when other cards are played this turn". It's hard to identify at first glance if that means "increases by X each time a different card is played this turn" or "increases by X once if one or more different cards are played this turn".

The Druid's Root says "...increases by X for each card played this turn". It's not clear that the card it is referring to is "this card" (the Druid), and not "any card".

Thanks, I'll see if I can make it clearer

Thanks! For a prototype, your game is already very balanced and polished. Great job, dude.

I love your game so much! The vibe is what makes it so excellent imo. If I may ask, how do you create such smooth animations with the cards, like when they flip over from the draw pile?

(+2)

Most of the animations are a result of tweens + animation easing applied to things like position, rotation, scale.

Thanks so much for the response! Ah I see, and you're able to do that to UI objects, or are you using 3D objects for the cards?

(+3)

It definitely works either way, for example I believe Balatro was all 2D, but I am using true 3D

(1 edit) (+3)
If you level every card in your deck to maximum, you won't be able to gain any more embryos- besides the pesky Spirit I was forced to free-buy to let me spend more light, this deck is incredibly efficient and can score upwards of 10k consistently. It was also able to reach and beat the final void with only one failure, in which I scored 996 light on the second to last void. With the Retain transient rune placed on an Elk and the Candle's single-use nature, I can thin my deck down to functionally 9 total cards, 3 of which have draw capability. If I'd executed everything in a more efficient order, I could have removed the Spirit, which would bring the deck down to 8 cards, meaning I could draw through all but one card in my deck each round, playing Carpet Construct nearly every turn for several thousand light apiece between the Elk, its rune, Chisel, and Golden Chest.
Needless to say, I like the game. A very normal amount. I cannot wait to break the Steam release as much as possible.
(+1)

Woah this game is insanely fun and addicting cannot wait to see what the full version has in store!! :o

(+1)

Hi! Your game has a really atmospheric vibe, and my style of music is close in spirit to that mood ^_^.  If you're interested in help, I can offer to compose a couple or three ambient tracks on the most flexible and loyal terms for the release version of the game.  Variety in this case will be a great bonus to the game's depth. :). I'll definitely share examples of my work if my offer is relevant. If interested, let me know how to get in touch with you, or write to me yourself on the temp-mail using the address where I should reach you "ravenstalestempmail@mailfrs.com"

I already wrote this as a rating, but i'll duplicate here also.

Awesome little game. Though, i would like to add that Overglow is SO BROKEN. After I unlocked that 2nd deck I speedran this game with wolves. The big Spider with the Druid combo is also strong, but overglow is just too much. I'd nerf the amount it adds on upgrade, but the game is super fun.

I am interested, can you explain in more detail what you doing with Afterglow, and maybe a screenshot?

What a fun little game. ^^

(+2)

Impressive to do it without prestiging at all!

new update looks good! love the new layout for the voids

(+1)

Glad to hear that!

So addictive, I finished it in one night

(+1)

slay the spire if it was chill and cool instead of fucked up and evil

Hey! Loved the game! pretty fun idea, hope you get it developed into a longer thing.
I'm just curious about what tools you used to develop it. Don't worry, I won't copy the idea (I don't even know how to make games, just curious 😅)

(1 edit) (+1)

Many games on itch list that info in "More information". I am using Godot for my game engine, and aseprite for most of the art.

Hey! I'm fairly new to the site, but thanks on the tip, I won't be having to bother other devs for this info 😅

one of the best games i've ever played, i ended up playing it for 2 days straight, beat it once then prestiged, beaten it again with the wild deck, prestieged again with full upgades and im playing with wild deck again cuz i like its combos more, i like the beholder leviathon combo better than the mirror golem combo but i enjoyed that too the first time playing with the starter deck, the exe version has a visual bug for me where the background is all white but im mostly certain its an issue on my side with my gpu, so im playing it on the web version, im so thankful for the export save function, but game-wise i love the aesthetic, there's some thought put into the cards and how they're meant to go along with each other, there aren't many cards so expectedly the combos are clear but still there's still a choice on which combo you decide to go for, for example the altar broodmother carpet construct is another combo im guessing but i didnt try it, really REALLY FUN, i wasnt expecting to find a game to be playing for the next couple days when i was just scrolling itch, i cant wait for more updates on it and especially the full release

just finished whats currently out of the game cant wait till more cards and decks be come available

im very confused as how did you win with a 0 upgrades stalker and and upgraded centaur, from my experience centaur is one of the weakest cards i had to remove it and stalker is the best after beholder and leviathon, that aside winning with any card 0 upgraded is shocking to me

(+1)

Um pretty much my main thing was constantly having centaur boost either leviathan or the spider and using the one effect that let's me leave the spider in my hand for its baby spider things and then on my last turn just playing the leviathan and I had the last turn double point artifact and after enough run of slowly raising the leviathan and spider with the centaur and that plant dude every once in a while I won

(+1)

Really enjoying this game - great work on concept, aesthetic and vibe!

Worth mentioning I'm getting an UI bug where a version of the last played card remains in each slot after its played, which is making things a little confusing. I'm playing via Chrome on a 2025 Macbook Pro if that can help with diagnosing the issue.

Thanks again and keep going!

Very interesting, so is it like when you play a card, a duplicate remains in hand, or what do you mean by "slot" exactly?

Yes, but its the colour of the background and isn't selectable. Its like an 'after image' of a previously played card.

(2 edits)

Also, another UI note. I think the cumulative total of stars per card played should be much larger / more prominent (and perhaps displayed beneath the void info, rather than beside it).

I find my attention is currently caught by watching the cards trigger in the centre of the screen, so I'm missing the cumulative total completely. Its hard to break the habit consciously when this info is so small - as its the primary game score, it deserves to be far more visible.

Amazing game but some of the rune descriptions don't make sense and I have to play them wrong a few ties to figure it out, the run for the golem makes no sense to me because the card upgrades and I can see the light gain increase in the discard deck but it doesn't compute to the overall for the trial, how does it work?

Are you referring to the "Amass" rune?

yes

Thanks for the response. The rune triggers after the card gains light, so if the card was at 6, it would give 6, and then the rune would trigger after and give it like +3. So the next time it would give 9, but not the first time. I will see about making that clearer somehow

(+1)

I like that the newest update has added some more structure to prestiging, along with the change to the embryo blessing that adds some initial currency to upgrade cards.

However, as someone who has been hard resetting with each update to get a feel for the new progression...

1. It kinda sucks that both deck selection and transient runes (aka the two blessings that meaningfully change how you play) are locked into the "late game". I know the actual game's going to be quite a bit longer (such is the nature of incremental games), but having to play a bunch of rounds to unlock two of the more interesting mechanics feels a bit bad.

2. I hate to say this, but managing your relics is really boring. Don't get me wrong, they're strong and do their job, but I find myself looking at the relic screen, going "I don't care, I guess I'll equip this one?" and completely forgetting that they exist. Maybe they just need some added visual juice? To use Chisel as an example, maybe the game could show the 50% increase right on the cards and that text could be all red and glowy to show that it was doing something.

3. I'm kinda surprised that there isn't a blessing that does the standard incremental thing and automates card upgrades? I'd love a blessing that, say, made it so void tokens and embryos spent on one Spirit got spent on all of them, or one that made it so void tokens spent on runes also get spent on upgrading the card's base light gain.

4. I'd also really like a blessing that boosts hand size. It could be as basic as "you draw one extra card per turn" or something more game-y like "once per trial, you can discard a card to draw two cards" that you can hook other upgrades onto.

(+1)

Appreciate the feedback, I'll see what I can do!

Very cool idea. The execution is great, it's a very natural fusion the incremental and deckbuilding genres. Can't wait for the full steam release! One thing that could be a short-coming of a longer version is a lack of pressure to try new strategies. If the gameplay loop can be designed to force the player to try new decks / combos every few prestiges then I think this has a lot of potential.

This game is awesome! still trying to figure out how Weave works on Carpet Construct tho lol ;p

I guess it might sinergise with the one that gains star whena card is played

(2 edits)

I had the same struggle, but JUST figured it out! It's activated by Elk and Druid's runes. It only activates when a rune (OTHER than the base light gain that every card has) generates light for you.

So here's a way to get the benefit:
Have in hand Carpet Construct, and Druid. Play the Druid. The Druid's growth activates. Carpet Construct's Weave activates, upgrading the Carpet Construct. You can then play the Carpet Construct, to benefit from it's upgraded light gain.

Other things:
the Elk's "Herd Support" rune activates The Carpet Construct's Weave. Elk can activate the Weave several times in a turn.
The Smith does NOT activate the it.
Druid's Growth activates it, but its Root rune does not.
Druid's Growth activates it even the first time you play it, when it gives you zero energy.

Overall: Its effect is a little weaker than I'd expect for a "premium" card. Edit: Never mind, I found some good synergy. This game has some fun depths!

This is incredible, I stayed up and played for 3 hours

Absolutely loved it <3

Great game, I really like druidmaxxing and getting like 1000 points in one turn, I got 10K in one trial.

this is my first itch.io game and i kinda expected the games to be bad, but this game is a masterpeice.

Really fun little game, easy to pick up but a lot of fun strategy. Thanks for making it!

I'm a diehard for card games and this has been quite addictive to play. Not sure why the game won't save for me and as far as the game's going, that's the only gripe I have. Otherwise, excellent game and would love to see how far it goes!

Is this on the most recent version 0.3.0.1?

(1 edit)

Last update since I just found out that you've updated the game now

EDIT: Saving works!
