There are three ways to load an old, incompatible saved game.

The Easy Way:

I don't think Itch updates your game automatically, so I guess the easy way is to just not update your game...

The Hard Way:

If you want to bring your game up to the latest version (1.1.1a as of the time of this message) you can do it, but it will require some sacrifice...

All the dungeons were updated to accommodate the new lighting engine, so if you load them, they will have weird errors and bugs. To update your saved game file, follow these few steps:

1. If you have the game saved in a dungeon, first you would need to download the correct, old version as described above, load your game, move your character out of the dungeon, then save and close the game.

2. Go to "C:\Users\-your username-\AppData\Local\Cyclopean" and find the saved game folder you want to update.

3. Open the folder (i.e. Save_1) and open the "character.sav" file with Notepad.

4. Adjust the first line to read "1.1.1a" then save and close the file.

5. Then finally, delete the following files (if they are in the folder):

"crag2.sav""koth2.sav""pnath2.sav""vaults2.sav""sarkomand2.sav"

Also, in the main folder, delete any of the following files, if they are there:

"temp_crag2.sav""temp_koth2.sav""temp_pnath2.sav""temp_vaults2.sav""temp_sarkomand2.sav"

6. Once all these files are deleted, you can download the latest version of the game, and load your saved game file.

Sorry for the bother! I do not intend to make any more major changes like this, that would require a restart, any more.

The Third Option:

If you are struggling to accomplish any of this, I will be happy to update your file for you manually. Find that same save folder (in AppData as described above), right click and select "send to > Compressed (zipped) file" and email that file to michael@schmidtworkshops.com

I can do the update for you and send it right back. It may take up to 24 hours or so, depending on whether I am at my computer or not.
