About the game
Bureaucracy of Darkness is an idle / incremental management game about building a cult not through brute force, but through organization, persuasion, hierarchy, and bureaucracy.
You don’t start with buildings.
You don’t start with followers.
You start alone, murmuring in the alley.
From there, you slowly construct an institution:
•convince people manually
•recruit your first cultists
•promote them through increasingly absurd ranks
•formalize everything into offices, paperwork, and permissions
•and eventually let the system run itself
Cultists are temporary.
The institution is permanent.
Core gameplay
•Manual persuasion
Click to generate Influence and bootstrap the cult from nothing.
•Recruitment & workforce growth
Recruit cultists, improve intake quality, and scale your lowest‑tier workforce.
•Hierarchy & promotion
Promote cultists through 10 tiers, each unlocking new resources and systems.
•Institutional buildings
Construct permanent offices that define how your cult operates:
•persuasion
•recruitment
•promotion
•authorization
•optimization
•Deep upgrade system
Every building contains multiple upgrade tracks, each with 100 levels divided into resource‑based decades and permanently locked by Seals.
•Prestige through Sacrifice
Reset the run to gain Sacrifice, which permanently upgrades your institution and lets you lock progress forever.
Progression & depth
Each upgrade track progresses through resource bands:
•Early levels use basic resources
•Later levels demand higher‑tier resources
•Every 10 levels must be sealed with Sacrifice
•Unsealed progress is lost when you Sacrifice
•Sealed progress is permanent
This creates long‑term decisions:
•Do you push deeper now?
•Or lock in what you have forever?
Tone & style
•Dark cult themes
•Absurd bureaucratic language
•Dry humor and ominous paperwork
•“Monty Python meets sinister administration”
The game treats horrific ideas with deadpan professionalism and ridiculous seriousness.
